He graduated from the University of McGill in Montreal, Canada (Bachelor of Science) in1979 and the Medical School of the University of Athens in 1984; he received his Urology specialty title in 1992 (University Urology Clinic, ‘Laikon’ Hospital). He holds a PhD from the University of Athens (1992) and he started his one-year post-graduate training at Nijmegen in the Netherlands on a scholarship by the Onassis Foundation (Prof. F. Debruyne). In 1994 he was elected Lecturer at the 2nd Urology Clinic of the University of Athens, at Sismanogleio Hospital, where he served until 2008, when he resigned (Assoc. Professor). Currently, he is the Director of the 3rd Urology Clinic of ‘HYGEIA’ Hospital. He has been a member of the European Board of Urology (EBU) Examination Committee since 1997 and in the 2008-2011 period he was the President of the EBU Examination Board. For 7 years he served as a member of the Committee of the European Association of Urology (EAU) on the Guidelines of benign prostate hyperplasia. He is also a member of the European School of Urology (ESU) and the Administration Board of the European Society of Urological Technology (ESUT). He has participated in international multi-centre studies and has been invited as a speaker to 19 international conferences. He has authored 54 papers on Pub Med and 7 book chapters. His main interests concern prostate conditions and urinary system oncology. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of European Urology and a reviewer for numerous journals.
